Although it is now one of the most famous whiskies in the world, Ardbeg is a distillery that almost never was—twice! Unofficially producing whisky in 1798 and legally established by 1815, the distillery has endured a turbulent history of closures. However, its takeover by LVMH in the late 1990s cemented its success, making Ardbeg a sought-after whisky worldwide.
While much of its early production was used for blending, today Ardbeg focuses almost exclusively on single malt whisky. It has fully embraced its incredibly peaty character, creating a spirit that is unapologetically smoky and deeply complex. With numerous award-winning releases and a reputation for innovative fermentation techniques, Ardbeg continues to push boundaries while maintaining its cult status.
Ardbeg 10 has been a core bottling from the distillery for many years and was named Whisky of the Year in 2008. With its signature citrus-infused smoke and slightly lower ABV, it stands apart from its bolder counterparts. While still intensely peaty for the average drinker, this 10-year-old expression delivers a surprisingly smooth and well-balanced experience, with layers of complexity and a subtle softness in the finish.
A staple for peat lovers and an essential addition to any whisky collection, Ardbeg 10 Year Old is the epitome of Islay whisky—powerful, smoky, and irresistibly drinkable.
