A bold new chapter in The Glasgow Distillery’s Small Batch Series, the Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask Matured (Unpeated) is an exceptional single malt that brings together Scottish craftsmanship and South African wine heritage. A limited release of just 980 bottles, this expression is a first for the distillery – and for Scotch whisky – showcasing the influence of Constantia dessert wine casks on unpeated spirit.
Distilled in February 2020, this whisky began life in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, gaining soft vanilla and creamy oak character. It was then finished for 22 months in casks that previously held Constantia, a legendary sweet wine made from white Muscat grapes in one of South Africa’s oldest winemaking regions. Bottled in March 2025 at 56.6% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, this is a whisky that tells a story of global inspiration and local mastery.
This dram opens with vibrant orchard fruits – apricot, peach, and clementine – balanced by zesty pink grapefruit. On the palate, layers of manuka honey, Turkish delight, and gentle oak spice emerge, before giving way to a lingering finish of dark chocolate and citrus oil. The finish in Constantia casks lends a dessert-like richness, while the underlying spirit remains fresh, lively, and unmistakably Glasgow 1770.
