The House of McCallum McExplorer Double Estate Rum is a thoughtfully composed rum that reflects House of McCallum’s spirit of discovery and attention to detail. Its presentation features an illustrated carton and label by Gordon Mitchell of Edinburgh School of Art, capturing themes of travel, exploration, and understated humour.
This expression is built around a union of two Indian Ocean origins, combining rums made using different raw materials and distillation techniques. One element is distilled from fresh sugarcane juice in a French-influenced style, while the other is produced from molasses, in keeping with long-established regional practices. Distilled using both pot still and column still methods, the final blend achieves clarity, texture, and balance.
Maturation takes place over 5 to 12 years in American oak casks, before a finishing period in vintage ruby port casks, which introduces subtle richness and soft fruit character. Bottled at 43.5% ABV, McExplorer offers an accessible yet layered profile with poise and warmth.
