Seasonal Release | Peated Single Malt | Limited Edition
Welcome to the final frostbitten flourish of Lochlea’s seasonal series — the Lochlea Ploughing Edition 3rd Crop is here, and it’s rolling in like a Lowland blizzard with boots on and peat in its soul.
Crafted in the deep midwinter at Lochlea Distillery — the independent farm-to-bottle powerhouse tucked away in Ayrshire — this limited-edition single malt is all about smoky warmth, rural grit, and bold character. The 3rd Crop closes the chapter on the seasonal saga, and it’s going out in style: matured in ex-Islay peated quarter casks and first-fill bourbon barrels, this dram brings fire, structure, and an unapologetic coastal swagger to the Lowlands.
We’re talking natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at a proper 46% ABV — just as it should be. Expect soft campfire smoke, toasted oak, and rich earthy undertones, all balanced against Lochlea’s clean, farm-grown spirit. This is peat with poise, smoke with structure — a whisky for winter nights and collectors who know exactly what they’re after.
And when we say limited, we mean it. Once the frost lifts and this edition melts off shelves, that’s it — no do-overs.
So whether you’re sipping by the fire, stashing one for a future vertical tasting, or gifting a piece of Ayrshire’s distilling story, the Lochlea Ploughing Edition 3rd Crop deserves a spot in your winter whisky rotation.
Nose: Freshly lit campfire, crisp green apple, and charred oak. A gentle thread of coastal brine beneath warming spice—think cracked black pepper and clove.
Palate: Sweet vanilla and toffee from the bourbon casks glide in first, before dry smoke and earthy peat take hold. There’s a lovely interplay here: honeyed malt, chargrilled citrus, and soft smoke in perfect balance.
Finish: Long and dry with lingering smoke, a touch of salted caramel, and a faint whisper of medicinal peat—more Islay than Lowland, but always unmistakably Lochlea.
