Tomatin Italian Collection - Marsala 12-Year-Old
The Tomatin Italian Collection Marsala is a distinguished addition to the celebrated Italian Collection, a trio of exceptional releases showcasing the influence of Italian wine casks on Highland single malt whisky. Crafted with precision and passion, this 12-year-old expression embodies Tomatin’s dedication to innovation, quality, and tradition.
Distilled in 2010, this whisky began its journey maturing for ten years in ex-bourbon casks, allowing it to develop a solid foundation of vanilla, honey, and soft oak. It was then transferred to carefully selected Marsala wine casks, where it spent its final two years absorbing the rich, complex characteristics of this historic Sicilian fortified wine.
Marsala, a wine with deep roots in Sicily’s winemaking heritage, has been enjoyed since the 18th century, particularly in England, where it became highly sought after. The barrels used for this finishing process were sourced from some of the finest Marsala producers, ensuring that the whisky benefits from the full depth and complexity of the wine’s influence.
On the nose, expect an enticing blend of dried fruits, caramelized nuts, and hints of sweet spice, mingling with subtle citrus and floral notes. The palate unfolds with layers of honeyed sweetness, toasted almonds, and baked apples, balanced by rich toffee and delicate oak. The Marsala cask finish imparts a velvety mouthfeel, enhancing the whisky’s complexity and adding a lingering touch of dried apricot and spice.
Bottled at 46% ABV, this non-chill-filtered expression delivers a full-bodied and naturally rich experience, allowing whisky enthusiasts to enjoy its authentic depth and character. Whether savored neat or paired with fine chocolate and cheeses, Tomatin Italian Collection Marsala is a must-have for those who appreciate the intersection of Scottish craftsmanship and Italian winemaking tradition.
